The Adelaide Fringe Festival
The Adelaide Fringe Festival is the largest arts festival held in Australia and largest in the world behind Edinburgh in Scotland. Featuring arts as diverse as theatre, music, dance, comedy, visual arts, digital arts, film, writing, and cabaret, there is something to suit everyone. The festival is usually run in February / March and held in various locations around the city.
Womadelaide
Womadelaide celebrates the sounds of the planet with a huge world music festival. Since 1992 this festival has attracted some of the world’s finest musicians and bands. Held in early March, the festival is held in the beautiful Botanic Park. This festival is more than just listening to great music, there are music workshops, kid zones, visual arts and some of the best food you can get anywhere in the world.
Adelaide Arts Festival
The Adelaide Festival of the Arts is well renowned as one of the world’s great art festivals. It has offered a rich program of entertainment since 1960. Held every 2nd year (even years) the festival offers opera, theatre, dance, classical and contemporary music, cabaret, new media events, Adelaide Writers’ Week (the largest literary festival in the world), outdoor entertainment, visual arts exhibitions, master classes, forums, a late nightclub and much more
Adelaide Christmas Pageant
The Adelaide Christmas Pageant brings the city to a standstill in November. When thousands of people young and old flock to the city for the annual Christmas Pageant parade.
Hundreds of musicians, dancers and performers entertain the crowd along with magnificent floats decked out in colour magical scenes. The highlight of the parade is the arrival of Father Christmas to Adelaide. The pageant is the largest Christmas pageant of its kind in the world and has been following the tradition since 1933.
The Royal Adelaide Show
Over half a million people flock to the Royal Adelaide Show every September, making it the city’s largest event. Starting on the first Friday of September, this event is a showcase of everything South Australia has to offer, from the city to the country and outback. There’s some magnificent animals on show, plus the usual fun of carnival rides and of course the show bags for the kiddies.
