Victor Harbor is a small town located on South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula, a popular wine and tourist region of South Australia.
Located a bit over 1 hour south of Adelaide, this once small town has grown considerably in recent years to the point where the nearby towns of Port Eliot to the East and Encounter Bay to the South West are now a continuous strip of housing.
The area has become somewhat of a sea change suburb for many Adelaide residents as well as a popular long weekend getaway thanks to its magnificent beaches, plenty of accommodation and several popular attractions.
The most popular attraction of Victor Harbor is Granite Island. Connected to the Victor Harbor town centre by a historic wooden causeway. The 630-metre-long causeway provides access to both pedestrians and a horse-drawn tram that dates back to 1894. Popular with tourists, this tram crosses to the other side of the island to the Island Café and Screwpile jetty. This is where you can access the Oceanic Victor in-sea aquarium. Here you can go and swimming with and feeding large Southern Bluefin Tuna and other local fish.
Other attractions on Granite Island include nature walks, whale and fairy penguin watching, as well as visiting several sculptures that are located around the island.
Being only 40 mins from Cape Jervis, Victor Harbor is a perfect gateway to Kangaroo Island, which is Australia’s third-largest island and a popular tourist destination full of native bushland and amazing wildlife.
