Darwin Things to Do

Fannie Bay Gaol Museum
Fannie Bay Gaol Museum is located in Darwin’s former jail in between East Point and the Casino. The jail’s exhibits include many of the old cells and the gallows where the worst of the Northern Territory’s criminals were hung.

Darwin Wharf Precinct
Darwin’s Wharf Precinct is set to become Darwin’s version of Sydney’s Darling Harbour or Melbourne’s Docklands. The Precinct is currently home to the Australian Pearling Exhibition, Indo Pacific Marine, WW2 Oil Tunnels, Darwin Exhibition Centre and the Stokes Hill Wharf restaurant complex. Future plans for the area include a wave pool, beach residential apartments, parks and shopping, stage one is due to open in 2008.

Australian Pearling Exhibition
The Australian Pearling Exhibition is located in the wharf precinct and showcases the history of how pearls get from inside a clam to the jewellery store window.

Deckchair cinema
Darwin’s warm climate makes it a great place to sit out under the stars and watch a movie. The cinema is located just off the wharf area and below parliament house.

Indo Pacific Marine
The Indo Pacific Marine lets you see reef life up close without getting your feet wet. Housed indoors at Stokes Hill Wharf, this attraction has set up several tanks filled with reef life, letting you see a variety of reef environments pretty quickly.
