Green Island’s history is full of rich and diverse stories. In 1857, the first non aborigional person, a fisherman named James Mein sought refuge here for two decades, hunting sea cucumbers for the bustling Asian market while clearing land. Later, the Queensland Government added a touch of tropical charm in 1899, planting coconut palms to sustain shipwrecked sailors. In 1905, the island welcomed another soul, George Lawson, affectionately known as Yorkey, who also cast his nets in pursuit of sea cucumbers.

As the vibrant tapestry of the 1920s unfurled, Green Island’s potential as a captivating tourist spot came to light. Since then, its allure has blossomed, beckoning travellers to discover its captivating landscapes and growing facilities.
