The Cat and Fiddle arcade is one of Hobart’s vibrant shopping arcades, once the home of the Cat & Fiddle Inn which opened in 1817.
The beautifully restored H Jones & Co and IXL stores have been converted into funky bars, restaurants and hotels.

Much of Hobart and Tasmania’s history is in beautiful sandstone structures which were built by the Convicts imprisoned in Van Demons land when the state was basically a series of penal settlements.

In the 1980s, a Japanese starfish Asterias amurensis was introduced in ballast water that was discharged into the port at Hobart, Without any natural predators they spread rapidly. Today, the island’s Derwent Estuary is home to an estimated 28 million of the pests.
