Powerhouse Museum

Situated behind the Darling Harbour complex at Ultimo, the Powerhouse Museum is Australia’s largest and most popular museum The Powerhouse has a unique and diverse collection of 385,000 artefacts which span history, science, technology, design, industry, decorative arts, music, transport and space exploration.

Throughout the year the Powerhouse Museum plays host to special exhibitions, some recent ones have included artefacts from ‘The Lord of the Rings’ film, Star Trek and Australian Music Memorabilia.

Some of the more amazing exhibitions include a real steam train, Space Shuttle and Satellite mock ups and a Catalina flying boat.

Star City Casino

Although not as large as Melbourne’s Crown Casino Star City is a great place for a flutter, with over 1500 slot machines and 160 gaming tables hours of fun is available. The Casino also offers a 900 seat showroom and magnificent Lyric Theatre holding 2000 people.

There are plenty of bars, restaurants and speciality shops and a huge hotel as part of the complex.

A light rail service links Central Station, China Town and Darling Harbour with the Casino, and busses and watercraft also make regular trips.

Hyde Park Barracks Museum

The Hyde Park Barracks stands dominantly in what is now the historic precinct of Macquarie Street right in the heart of Sydney.

Constructed by convict labour from 1818, the Barracks was designed by accomplished colonial architect Francis Greenway. The barracks was the principal male convict barracks in New South Wales until its closure in 1848.

It was used up until 1978 for a number of uses including an Immigration Depot, a female asylum, law courts and government offices.

Sydney Fish Market

For something a little different, visit the new Sydney Fish Market, which is in Pyrmont. There is a light rail service from Central Station, Darling Harbour and the Star City Casino which will take you there.

Sydney Fish Market is the largest market of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and the world’s second-largest seafood market in terms of variety outside of Japan, usually selling with over 100 species and 55 tonnes, per day.
The tours are conducted by a trained Sydney Fish Market tour guide and explore all facets of the Market and its operations, including a tour of the Auction floor, the sashimi pavilion and crustacean pen.

The tours are available Monday – Friday, at 7.00am, to ensure your group will view the Auction which begins at 5.30am and experience the full range of seafood.
