Sydney’s City Precinct

Sydney’s CBD differs considerably from Melbourne or Brisbane, with much of it being underground.  As Sydney has a large underground rail network many of the shopping complexes were built to take advantage of commuters. It is possible to do all your shopping without actually coming up to ground level or going outside.

The Queen Victoria Building is the most beautiful shopping complex in Sydney restored in the 1980s after coming close to demolition this magnificent building is absolutely spectacular, with dozens of beautiful boutiques, cafés and stores. Myer or Grace brothers as it was known until just recently is Sydney’s biggest department store selling just about anything. With floors of fashion and home wares, it’s hard to keep the credit card in the pocket.

The Sydney Tower complex which is a revolving restaurant and spectacular lookout is also home to an expansive shopping centre with a great food court and lots of speciality shops.

The city is linked by rail, bus and a light rail system which travels up George St from Circular Quay to Central Station, another line runs from the station past China Town and Darling Harbour.

The northern end of the city is home to much of the city’s banking and business district, while the bottom (southern end) is home to the theatre and entertainment district backing onto China Town.
